Over the next three to five years, traditional telephone switches will be rendered obsolete by software and hardware that supports Voice over IP (VoIP) or, more accurately, “IP-telephony.” In spite of the emergence of standards such as SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), VoiceXML (the Voice eXtensible Markup Language) and CCXML (Call Control eXtensible Markup Language), significant integration efforts are required.
