Dutch Firm ING Launches Mobile Banking App with Voice Authentication

ING200x200With momentum increasing for replacing PINs and passwords as a means for authentication, this week Netherlands-based ING introduced voice biometrics technology for its mobile banking app.

Previously, ING launched its virtual assistant mobile banking app, Inge, with the help of technology partner Nuance, and has amassed a current user base of more than 100,000 users. The introduction of voice authentication allows users to initiate payments on iOS and Android phones or use fingerprint recognition on iOS phones with Touch ID.

“Thanks in part to the inclusion of biometric applications, we are able to make banking faster, smoother and easier for our customers and improve access,” said Jeroen Losekoot, Internet & mobile marketing manager at ING said in the announcement. “This allows them to have greater control over their finances.”

The authentication strategy will allow ING customers to make bank transfers and check balances through a natural, conversational interface.

The ING deployment fits into the company’s comprehensive customer care strategy that incorporates voice biometrics and multi-factor authentication for intelligent assistance.

Opus Research expects further such deployments where enterprises offer human-like automated services as natural way for individuals to interact with IVR systems, websites and mobile apps.
