With data breaches on the rise for the healthcare industry, biometric technology providers are developing measures to protect patient security.

One such solution includes voice biometrics provider Authentify working on a combined mobile application with LifeMed ID to authenticate patients’ identities to increase data accuracy and automate workflows.

According to the companies, once a healthcare worker enrolls the patient, a user is able to download Authentify’s voice recognition application to their personal mobile devices. Combined with LifeMed ID, a unique QR code is generated when a patient presents their mobile device, completing the automated registration process within seconds.

By streamlining patient registration, insurance verification and payment processing at any point of the service, the solution — known as “Better Together” — helps ensure accurate medical record matching to “increase patient safety, satisfaction and care outcomes while optimizing providers’ workflow capabilities,” said David Batchelor, CEO at LifeMed ID in a statement.

For its part, Authentify sees the healthcare market as a booming opporutnity: “Authentify’s voice biometrics and mobile applications, paired with LifeMed ID’s automated patient identity solution, allows Authentify to expand into the healthcare market by offering a solution that helps solve the problems of accurate patient identification, record matching and patient authentication from any medical facility with a simple issuance process and minimal technical impact,” said Jeff Wilberg, director of business development at Authentify.
