A Stroke of Genius: Nuance Powers T-Mobile’s Genius Button to Initiate Hands Free Messaging

We should have been on top of this announcement a week ago when T-Mobile made it known that it is offering “truly hands-free messaging.” The service, which is invoked by pressing “The Genius Button” on the T-Mobile myTouch 4G, is powered by the Nuance Voice Control platform and enables users to listen to, send and reply to text messages.

Nuance technology is embedded in the Android-based myTouch 4G in a couple of other ways. The Dragon Dictation app provides the ability to use voice input for any text field (such as a search box) and the T-Mobile’s MyAccount 3.0 app is based on Nuance Mobile Care. It let’s customers take care of common support activities (like top up, balance inquiries, bill payment) without having to call a service representative.
