T-Mobile’s Samsung Memoir Includes Nuance V-Suite

T-Mobile, the exclusive outlet for the Samsung Memoir, positions the device as a smartphones-with-high-resolution-camera. Nuance wants you to know that the phone also ships with both V-Suite 3 (voice command and input) and XT9 (predictive texting) pre-installed. Thus no download or AppStore purchase is required to support Voice Dialing as well as spoken commands “go-to” commands for Web browsing, as well as access and control of the Memoir’s many features and functions.

T-Mobile expects the 8 magapixel camera and phone with a touchscreen and capacious MP3 player to address many of the weak spots in the iPhone’s armor. The price is more appealing as well. The Memoir is available through T-Mobile retail outlets for $249 (after instant discount and rebate). The device is the latest of many phones from Samsung that come with Nuance’s technology pre-installed.

Cameras and touchscreens get all the press these days, often at the expense of highlighting the other technologies that have an impact on usability.
Because promotional efforts highlight the features that trump the iPhone or Android, T-Mobile pays short shrift to spoken input and predictive texting. Yet it is these enhancements to the user experience that will popularize the phones by making them easier to use. That’s why Nuance Communications issued a press release to make the point that the device ships with both V-Suite 3 and XT9 pre-installed. The point is that the features and functions that make the Memoir a good smartphone are improved by judicious use of spoken commands and predictive texting.
