So-called “dot revs†are often non-stories in the computer software community, especially in a world that is hungry for news on the latest mergers and acquisition in a rapidly consolidating market. Yet the release of Envox 6.3 is noteworthy because it marks a bundling of application development resources, SIP and VoIP support and flexible connectivity that is sensitive to the migratory patterns of today’s cost-conscious business enterprise.
The new solution boasts a cost-effective packaging of graphically laden development tools, Internet-friendly host media processing (HMP) and more powerful hooks into an enterprise’s Web services infrastructure. As companies of all sizes assess the best path to take from the status quo of the TDM world — with its PBXs, ACDs and IVR systems — to IP-Telephony and VoIP, Envox 6.3 will enable them to take a 100% software-based approach to handling voice response services over the Internet. It will also let them to employ Intel’s new interface boards that are designed to support mixed or hybrid TDM/IP environments.
The primary metric these days for successful speech applications is “speed to deploy.†It’s a challenge in multi-vendor environments with ‘hybrid’ call handling fabrics. As Genesys, Cisco, Avaya, Nortel and other providers of voice self-service platforms have come to know, adherence to standards (like VoiceXML, MRCP and others) are just table stakes. Customers are looking for a bundled (and preferably single-branded) approach to overcome technological uncertanties, promote speedy implementations and ensure general peace of mind.
