Nortel’s Auction Continues With Voice Applications (Sort of)

The ink’s not dry (or even signed really) on Nortel’s sale of its Enterprise assets, but this report from The Financial Post indicates high levels of interest in the company’s “Carrier Voice Application Services” group. In this lengthy interview with Samih Elhige, the CEO of the Carrier Voice Applications Services group provides his views on the state of the carrier market for VAS.

The answers in this Q&A are very informative and do a good job of describing expectations for carrier spending on VoIP-based solutions. What’s particularly telling from the point of view of Recombinant Telephony and speech-enabled services is that this particular discussion of “voice applications” makes no mention of interactive voice response or speech processing. It’s like Periphonics never existed. Where did it all go?
