Sensory’s TrulySecure Multi-Modal Biometric Authentication Solution Gets FIDO Certification

TrulySecureStandards-based, open protocol for mobile authentication appears to be gaining momentum.

Sensory announced last week its TrulySecure technology, which uses multimodal face and voice biometric authentication software, has been certified by the FIDO Alliance.

Sensory’s TrulySecure technology suite, launched in July 2014, is devised to allow secure access and authorization without requiring users to touch devices or enter passwords.

According to the announcement, FIDO tested TrulySecure for compliance with the FIDO UAF (Universal Authentication Framework) 1.0 specifications. The certification ensures standards for authentication that are compatible with and interoperate with all devices going forward.

“We at Sensory are huge supporters of the work the FIDO Alliance has done to create an exciting consortium focused on streamlining user transactions with on-device biometrics,” said Todd Mozer, chairman and CEO of Sensory, Inc.

The FIDO Alliance is an industry consortium launched in 2013 with a wide ranging group of members committed to address the lack of interoperability among strong authentication technologies. To date, 62 products have been FIDO Certified™ including Sensory’s TrulySecure solutions.

Increasingly, banks and enterprises are developing a multi-modal approach for mobile device authentication. This includes an impressive amount of investment for technology authentication solutions embedded on the device for processing. The FIDO Alliance’s approach shifts some of the burden for protecting personally identifiable information to software on devices or biometric features, and away from stored credentials and passwords.

But there remains some speculation as potential implementers, including commercial banks, healthcare providers, insurance, government agencies, and others, will “accept” such on-device authentication as a strong, secure token for such things as payment authorization or to gain access to personal information.

FIDO certification of TrulySecure is important next step to see if enterprises and application developers shift towards mobile, on-device authentication.
